"Check It Out!"

The Gouthro's Moose Madness Series on Moose Hunting & Calling is one of those great educational tools I wish would have been available a few years ago when I was having such a difficult time tagging a moose.  All the "free advice" I received from well- meaning moose advisors  hardly scratched the surface  compared to the in-depth studies and experience of Alex Gouthro -- the 'Moose Man'.

I advise anyone who is planning a moose hunt and would like to educate themselves on the intricacies of moose hunting to check out the Moose Madness Series.  You won't be sorry you did!

"You've Got To Get This Series!"

I've recently reviewed the Gouthro's Moose Madness Series On Moose Hunting & Calling and can honestly say that it is one of the best series on hunting a particular species I have ever seen.  Alex takes you on a journey that allows you to get to know moose very well, and chapters on understanding the moose rut, how and when to call, how to set up hunts, and how to recognize & handle bull responses get you ready for the hunt.  There is a unique treatment of understanding moose anatomy & the techniques used for proper shot placement that should be required viewing for every new moose hunter.  The DVDs covering the calling, hunt setups and handling bull responses are peppered with "Tips" to help the hunter avoid making common mistakes made by moose hunters, and all instruction is backed up with great moose footage to illustrate what is being talked about.

This man knows what he is talking about, and I've personally seen him in action.  Back in 1993 Alex guided me on an Ontario bow hunt, and called in the first bull moose I ever killed.  The bull came grunting from over half a mile away and swam across a lake to get to us.   His techniques and tactics work, and the Moose Madness Series belongs in every hunter's DVD library.

"Here’s a Moose Madness Masterpiece"

You gotta give credit to Alex Gouthro. When this guy sets out to create the most comprehensive video guide on moose hunting and calling ever produced, he does it right. Several years in the making, Gouthro’s Moose Madness Series DVD package is an A-to-Z action/information blockbuster that should be required viewing for anyone venturing into moose country.

In all, there are 4 DVDs and over 6 hours of video footage giving you everything you’ll ever need to know about North America’s largest member of the cervidae family: moose characteristics, subspecies and sizes, habitat, and a complete understanding of the moose rut.  But once this general moose info is laid out, the focus shifts to specific calling techniques and tips, hunting setups, decoying, and numerous in-the-field encounters with rutting bulls. As a bonus, there’s a crash course in moose anatomy, shot placement, and field dressing complemented by expert advice on choosing effective firearms and bowhunting gear. A couple of actual calling/shooting sequences cap the action.

Speaking as someone who’s hunted moose with Alex Gouthro and seen this master Ontario caller, guide, and fellow bowhunter in action, I can attest to the fact he’s the real deal. In fact, 97% of the DVD footage was taped by Alex and his hunting buddies outside of federal or provincial parks in actual hunting areas during open seasons. Such realism adds an unmistakable air of authenticity and authority to Moose Madness. I give it an enthusiastic thumbs up!

Interested readers can obtain complete ordering information by going online and visiting www.gouthrosmoosemadness.com at Northwest Video Productions’ home page.  To reach Alex directly, send emails to agouthro@tbaytel.net or call (807) 767-0494.  His own successful Northern Ontario Bowhunter Services offers quality hunts in prime Canada moose country.

Gouthro's Moose Madness Series

The 'Gouthro's Moose Madness Series is the most complete 'how-to' video collection on moose hunting & calling available on the market.  This four-part DVD series (six hours of action-packed video) covers every aspect of moose hunting & calling, including some of the most important and most overlooked aspects of being a successful moose hunter:  recognizing, understanding, and dealing with the various kinds of bull moose responses.

Alex's passion for Moose truly shines through with this DVD collection.  As an avid moose hunter for over 17 years I share the same passion for Moose as Alex, which can only be explained as 'Moose Madness'.

Whether you use electronic calls or your own voice when calling, the instruction and tips shared by Alex on hunt setups, use of decoys, anatomy & shot placement, and when to use passive and/or aggressive calling techniques can be applied to all moose hunters.

I have Moose Permits in Maine and New Brunswick this season, and plan on watching the complete Moose Madness DVD Series prior to each hunt.  It is truly a video series to be watched and studied before any annual moose hunt.

Gouthro's Moose Madness Series

For most bowhunters a wilderness hunt for moose is the dream of a lifetime. When we think about moose hunting, wild scenes of rut-crazed bulls crashing through the brush looking for the intruder play in our minds. Just the thought of hunting these monarchs of the boreal forest can really get our blood pumping. Whether you've got 20 years of moose hunting under your belt or you're planning your first moose hunt ever, the "Gouthro's Moose Madness" Series On Moose Hunting & Calling" is a must have.

Let's face it, moose hunting, even the do-it-yourself kind, is a considerable investment and the more you know about your quarry, especially how to call them in close, the better your chances of success.  The "Gouthro's Moose Madness" Series On Moose Hunting & Calling", six years in the making, is the most comprehensive DVD series on moose hunting and calling ever produced.  The set includes 4-DVD's with over six hours of up close and personal moose action and calling instruction.  Primarily filmed in the wilds of Nova Scotia and Northwestern Ontario, with the remaining footage from other Canadian provinces and Alaska, the priceless footage of moose in their natural habitat calling and responding to calls is alone worth the cost of the series.   Add the insight and easy to follow calling and hunting instruction from Alex "Moose Man" Gouthro, and you've got a set of moose hunting DVD's that have it all.  There's no doubt, if you're planning to head into the North Country in pursuit of the magnificent moose, you'll be way ahead of the game if you've learned the techniques and tactics contained in "Gouthro's Moose Madness" series on moose hunting and calling.

Gouthro's Moose Madness Series

I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to hunt moose for the past 35 years and, in addition, to have have worked with hunters as an outfitter for 20 of those years.

When I reviewed the Moose Madness Series I was amazed at how well Alex had truly captured the essence of moose and moose hunting.  His presentation is very professionally accurate and exceptionally informative.  When viewing the DVDs at times I felt that I was right beside Alex while he called and filmed in the woods or from the shores of lakes.  The dozens of bull moose you see coming to the call in this series provide proof of the authenticity of the techniques and tactics presented.

From my perspective every moose hunter, from the novice to the very experienced, would benefit from having a copy of the Moose Madness Series in his/her library.  Despite my experience, my knowledge base certainly expanded as a result of watching this series, particularly in the areas of understanding the moose rut, calling techniques, and handling the various types of bull responses.  These DVDs can prepare any hunter for his/her moose hunt.

Gouthro's Moose Madness Series

The Moose Madness DVD series by Alex Gouthro is a spectacular example of the way a tutorial should be done on DVD.  I must say I am generally not a fan of multiple DVD sets but this one is an exception. This set is logically and thoughtfully broken down into very manageable sections and chapters. It covers a plethora of subjects including moose habitat, the Rut, bull and cow vocalizations, passive and aggressive calling techniques, creation of calling sequences, hunting setups, moose anatomy & shot placement and much more.

The Moose Madness Series has a fabulous tutorial on how you can create the vocalizations of moose yourself and when to use them; however, you should understand that mastering the art of creating the moose vocalizations takes practice before vocally calling on any hunt.  But the effort will be worth it because you will have great joy with your new found talent, knowing that you can now attempt to call these majestic animals in with some confidence. With this DVD set in your collection you will have a great resource with which to gauge your progress.

I have been recording wildlife for a long time and understand the importance of understanding animal vocalizations. This comprehensive video series certainly develops this understanding when it comes to moose.  In fact, we at Foxpro Inc. are presently working on many more moose call vocalizations to offer our customers, many of which are discussed and demonstrated in the Moose Madness Series.  In fact, I feel that this series would be an excellent companion to our new moose vocalizations.  Our electronic call will easily allow you produce the calls and other sounds of rutting moose, but you still need to have a sound knowledge of the moose rut, an understanding of moose vocalizations, and how to conduct your moose hunt in order to effectively put the calls to good use.   The Moose Madness Series gets you on the fast track in gaining this knowledge!

If you are planning a moose hunt this series should be on your short list of DVD’s to watch. The extensive footage of moose in their natural environment alone makes the series a worthwhile purchase.

Happy Hunting and Good Shooting!

The 'Gouthro’s Moose Madness Series On Moose Hunting & Calling'

Having produced videos, DVDs and TV shows since 1986, I have first-hand experience with some of the trials associated with putting together video footage of hunting big game species.  With that said, I must say that I'm very impressed with the thoroughness of Alex Gouthro's production on moose hunting & calling.

In the Gouthro's Moose MadnessTM Series, produced through Northwest Video Productions, there is approximately six hours of footage.  It leaves nothing uncovered.  So for someone wanting to go about understanding moose, and all that is associated with hunting and calling moose, it is all there in the four DVDs making up this Series.

I first came to know Alex some years ago when he came by the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show and visited with me about his plans to produce these DVDs.  I know first hand how much time and effort he put into producing this video series.  I also know how proud he is of it and justly so.  As a testament to how well it was put together, please know that I learned more than I ever thought I would by viewing the Gouthro's Moose Madness®  Series.

To Alex -- Take care and good luck with all your productions!

“Moose Madness” Worth A Dozen Hunts

There are two ways to becoming a good moose hunter: take a dozen or so hunts with Alex Gouthro or, spend a few hours with the Gouthro’s Moose Madness DVD Series.  The hunts will cost you a small fortune; the DVD Series under a hundred bucks.

Alex is an experienced guide, outfitter, hunter and professional student of the moose.  More importantly he is an experienced and passionate educator who has packaged a lifetime of moose knowledge in an easy to understand and entertaining six-hour DVD package.

Unlike most teaching products, Moose Madness has excellent production values.  The DVDs are downright thrilling to watch and the calling sequences are exceptional in tone and accuracy.  Moose behavior is documented in painstaking (but not painful) detail which is simply captivating to watch.  It took Alex several years of filming in the bush to capture the footage but it was worth every black fly bite.

I’ve hunted with Alex and can state first hand “the man knows how to hunt moose”.  Hunting with Alex taught me more about hunting moose than I had learned in years of reading and preparation --- until now.  The Moose Madness Series taught me more about moose and moose hunting than I could learn on a dozen trips to the bush; even with Alex.

Fortunately, we now can all become “moose experts” (or at least a whole bunch more knowledgeable) without even swatting a single black fly.  The Gouthro’s Moose Madness Series is the most comprehensive treatise on moose biology, moose rut behavior, and moose hunting & calling ever assembled.  The chapter on ‘Moose Anatomy & Shot Placement’ is the best treatment of that subject I’ve ever seen.  It is dollar for dollar the best purchase a moose hunter and/or enthusiast could ever make - bar none.

Don’t take your next moose hunt without first spending some time with Alex in the comfort of your living room.  You’ll be well prepared for your hunt!

 Gouthro’s Moose Madness DVDs

Every year about this time I rummage through old VHS tapes looking for hunting videos.  It’s a pre-hunt tradition.

These past few weeks however, I’ve been playing a new set of very modern DVDs on the family entertainment unit and getting what could be described as a master’s degree in moose hunting.

The four-DVD set is called the Gouthro’s Moose Madness Series on Moose Hunting & Calling, and was produced by Thunder Bay resident and expert moose hunter Alex Gouthro.  The DVD Series could best be described as a labour of love.

“When I left the Ministry of Education I wanted to try my hand at making a video”, says Gouthro, a retired educator who marketed a moose calling tape set in 1993.  “I’ve always had a love for moose and thought if I could show people the information on video it would be so much better.  I bought myself a good camera, an editing suite, and began the journey”.

As it turned out, Gouthro’s journey took him across North America’s moose country and spanned six years.  Moose were filmed in British Columbia, Alaska, Cape Breton, New Brunswick and Northwestern Ontario.  Gouthro first wrote the script for the Moose Madness Series and needed to get certain moose behaviours and sequences on film to make it all work together.

A simple concept on paper, but moose don’t always follow the rules, and Gouthro’s decision not to do any filming in parks but only in hunting areas made his job that much more difficult.

“I spent days in the bush with a tent, pack and camera, following moose around as they went through the various phases of the rut”, he says.

In order to get the very best footage he could, Gouthro enlisted help from a number of his friends, several of whom show up in the DVD Series.  On some of his hunting shoots as many as four video cameras would be running at once.

Gouthro says that spending quality time with rutting moose was always interesting.  “There was a time we had to run from a bull, “ he says with a chuckle.  I had to hide under a spruce tree until he was out of the area.  Bulls in the rut can be unpredictable.”

Thankfully, the hard work and close scrapes paid off for Gouthro.  The Moose Madness Series is an impressive and entertaining piece of work.  The first three DVDs in the set are each about 100 minutes long, and provide five hours of action-packed instructional video on moose hunting, identification, habitat, and calling.  The DVDs are broken down into chapters, with each one building on the knowledge learned in previous sections.

You get to see many live moose throughout the DVD set, whether it be cows introducing their calves to water, or bulls grunting and beating up bushes while coming into the call.  There are roughly 150 different moose shown in the first DVD alone.  All three DVDs are filled with expert instruction for bow and gun hunters, as well as about 30 very useful hunting tips.

The fourth DVD that comes with the Moose Madness Series is a very enjoyable bonus.  You get to meet the key players in the making of the Series, watch a couple of dramatic (and successful) hunts, learn some different field dressing techniques, and get a look at some of the gun and bow hunting equipment that Gouthro and his friends use.  Good stuff.

Gouthro’s Moose Madness is the most thorough and professional looking DVD series I’ve yet seen on the subject.  If you have been looking for a way to quench the pre-moose hunt fever, look no further.
